Repotting My Precious and Antique Store Finds

 Hi friends!

Well last night when we got home from Fort Smith;
I ran around with the waterhose trying to give everyone a cold drink.
My hose is really long and without realizing it I'd drug it across a plant stand near the garden.
When I came back around; this dark blue, glazed pot had fallen off the stand onto the ground.
It's one of my most precious pots because it's the very last present my Mom ever gave me. That and a garden magazine.  I ran to it when I realized it had fallen to the ground.  Thankfully it didn't even have a crack.  I started kicking myself, that I'd even left it on the plant stand in the first place.
The sweet william wasn't doing well in it anymore so today I dumped that out and cleaned the pot and brought it inside.  In my little art porch lives this mother in law's tongue.  It too was my Mom's although I've  divided it two or three times now. Lately it's not been doing so well ... so it's what I decided to put in my precious pot.  I know; I know... it's just a clay pot and a plant ... but...
the memory of that last Christmas together.....  makes it  extra special.

It makes me smile that this dark indigo blue is now one of my  favorite colors.
She couldn't  know that ... back then.
I shared yesterday that we stopped at one of my favorite antique stores yesterday.
This is a book I found there.

I love that all through the pages a woman documented her
sightings.
I will too.
And you probably guessed that my new earbobs
would have weighed down these ears that myguy says quit growing when I was about three. ha!
Yes I finally found a vintage chandy!
We have looked and looked for one but they're always too big or too messed up.
This one fits soooo well in my art porch so I think this is where she'll land.
With our bedroom at the top of the honeydo.. this little corner will have to stay as is awhile.
But I can live with that!

Time to start some supper.
Until we meet again.

September 2017 Day 30 Vintage Find

At an antique shop today I found some old music player rolls that were super
cheap and I wondered if they'd be neat to cut and add in journals.
Opening the first box... I got my answer.

My Artist Date

 Hi friends,

Well, last I posted here; I shared that I was starting in the book The Vein of Gold.
In this morning's lesson; I was reminded of going on Artist Dates.
I started doing that when I went through the last workbook but had kind of forgotten
about them.  The idea is to go somewhere all by yourself... a place to refresh... get inspired..
take in something new... - you get the idea.
But I just really had no idea where to go?
A friend of mine and I had been talking vintage shops and things and I told her I hardly go anymore.
Well today I decided to visit my most favorite little antique shop.
Hadn't been there in quite some time because honestly... I just don't need one darn thing.
There comes a point that you just don't need to keep dragging home "more stuff."
I loaded in the jeep and tried to talk myself out of it all the way there.
Almost turned around and came back home.
Do you ever try to just talk yourself right out of something?
Once I got there and inside though... I was glad I went.
It did inspire me!!!

I also told myself I could just look and not buy anything.
Who was I kidding?
Especially when I found this book called Masterpieces!
It is chock full of works by DaVinci,
Picasso, Van Gogh ... you name it!!! Five bucks.
Thought I might cut images out and glue into my art journals
but I don't know if I can actually do it.  Once I started reading...
Ohmygosh... it was a score for sure.
On top of it, is a vintage FLOWER book full... I mean full of flowers.
I flipped to the roses section and yall..
there are even pink grootendorst!
Beautiful color photos!!

Then I found this black transferware plate.
It had two-three hairlines in it,
but I found another one identical to it in better condition.
I love this pattern so much.
See where this artist date is going?
sweet inspiration!!!

Then there were these cheap little bottles.
The green one is already on the bottle tree in the garden.
The flask with the honeycomb is staying in the house...
I want to do something with that one!!!!
The other two in the potting shed windowsill.
Look how pretty the plate looks with these flowers?
The flowers are actually a deep reddish brown color but
they almost take on a black hue?
I think my little date was a success.
I'm anxious to open up my journal tonight and
smear on some gesso and paint.
But for now I better sign off.
My gals are on their way out to the farm today.
I get to kiss some babytoes.

Thanks for stopping by the shed today.
Have a great weekend!

Two Bucks and a Can of Flat Black

There are two prints; ... no three that I keep my eye open for
at the local thrift shops.
One is this one.
Soon as I spotted it; I made this
mad dash around a rack of clothes.
The frame is actually plastic but the print was
in pretty good shape except for being partially unattached.
I asked the man running the register how much he wanted for it-
He examined it carefully and I could tell
he "appreciated" it too.
Before he answered a price, I reminded him
lol ... that you know it "IS" all coming apart
and frame... is plastic.
"How bout two bucks, he asked."
-- sold.

I carefully sat it on the passenger seat in my jeep for the happy ride home.
The only paint we had in our shop was gloss.
I knew I hated the frame the way it was, but would even more
"glossyblack."

So a quick run to the nearest Dollar General and
I was in business.
Flat black!

I first carried it to the mechanic shop and Trent reminded me
Dad doesn't like anything painted in here when we're running the reddi heater.
Good point.
:)  lol
I'm pretty sure as cold as it was out  in the shed,
quality control would give me a thumbs down... but oh well.
You do what you gotta do.
Was a little worried when that middle part looked as goofy as it did but
I decided if it still looked like that dry, I'd go back over that part with a brush of
something... (yeah even turquoise crossed  my mind- barbaric huh?
I left it  out  in the freeeezin cold a couple hours but I
brought the print inside for safe keeping.
Grace .. on top of lace...
and some vintage wallpaper and contact paper too.
Two bucks and a can of flat black later...
and wala...
It turned out better than I hoped.
It still needs a couple little staples or four or six- on the back
for good measure.
Myguy said he'd help me with that.
Hope he has a plan coz I'm not sure how to staple a tiny
staple into a thin plastic ridge.
He told me he  loves the picture and  thinks his Grampa and Grandma
had one hanging in their house too.

Well that's all for today... I have to head out to the shop for awhile so the
guys can make it to an appt.
I leave you with this washtub full of pansies.
It was 9 degrees here last night...
and they didn't seem mind one bit!
Pansies are not a pansy!
Well unless it's hot out;
I guess we all have our thing.

Have a great day,
L

New Discoveries

 Mowing at my AngelMother's today;
I started around her Magnolia tree then spotted

 something "red."
What a delight to discover the little pods going to seed.
Seriously I never noticed this before.  I'd never even thought about the pods
busting out in seeds like this.  The other times I've mowed it was blooming but ...
never have I seen it go to seed.  Timing I guess?
When I finished, I went home and got my camera to take these pictures and
I grabbed a couple pods too.
Googling them I learned that I can grow more magnolia trees.
There are no baby trees growing around the base of this one so they must be
tricky but I'm gonna give it a try.  It says it helps to soak them overnight and then you
gotta get the exterior off ... we'll see how that goes.
Maybe one day there will be more Magnolia trees growing down by the woods,
thanks to the  AngelMother Magnolia here.

Recently out "junkin" we came upon this
"coal miner's canary cage."
It's all handmade from ... tin cans?
The inside of the door has writing on it...
it was made from an old "battery."
Someone spent alot of time making it and
it's very strong.  It'd be cute hanging from a tree,  but
I hate to mess it up outdoors so it might make a good ribbon/lace holder
in my craft room.
You never know what you're gonna find?!
Don't you wish this cage could tell it's story?

Have a great weekend,
Lea

The Shabby Olde Potting Shed with a little Greenhouse Of Olde Windows

... So we're winding down on giving the olde shed a little more room... and light.
I'm thankful for Myguy; who  took a week of his vacation to create this labor of love.
If you've read here before; you might already know that:
Once upon a time there were two Starboys who wanted to build a fort.
Their Dad (Myguy) took them in a truck and trailer to a friend of his who
had torn down an olde house for lumber.  Myguys  loaded piles of oak boards and hauled them
to our back pasture; where together they built this little shed pictured above.

As the little boys grew taller and their voices grew lower,
their interests changed from climbing trees
and galloping their horse and mule across the pasture, ... playing Robin Hood,
and catching crawdads in the creek- to... building hotrods, burning tires and goin muddin.
The little fort just sat and sat ... until one day....
this Momma asked Myguy if he could somehow move the lonely little fort into
her garden. He obliged and
using the tractor skidded the fort on logs
to it's present spot. I can't tell you how happy I was.
I'd  always dreamed of  a garden shed of my very own.
Then; as time went on,...
the Shabby Olde Potting Shed
and this blog was born.

Over the years ivy and wisteria  covered the back wall
and you can no longer see that there's even a window there.
The groundhogs and armadillos have dug so badly beneath it that parts
of it have fallen right in the dirt and .. the middle; well, it's buckled and you gotta climb uphill abit to walk across the floor to the potters bench.    Mud dobbers,  ivy,
and I'm sure angels ... hold the whole thing together.  But I've so enjoyed my time in this tiny
olde shed.  About a year ago;  a neighbor of ours remodeled and gave us all the olde windows.
They're extra special to me because my Sister once lived in that house and she; our Angelmother and I used to sit in sun porch/ sewing room and have bible studies together looking through these very windows.
I have such good memories of those times that just writing about it here tonight... still brings tears to my eyes.

Greenhouse.
Two beautiful words rolled into one.
...This was another dream of mine.
--Everytime I'd see pictures of greenhouses or a shed,   built  using old windows,
I'd drool a little on the pages.  As the time grew nearer;
Myguy asked to see   my Pinterest greenhouse photos and the stacks of magazine
pictures I kept  bookmarked on the side of our bed.  A vision took root.
The olde potting shed is only 8x8 feet.

And here's the front of it  with a 12x12 addition.
We still have a few things to finish.  But it's caulked
and even in the horrible storms last night... nothing leaked.
All the exterior of it is treated wood and I'm not sure; but  think I'll paint it white.
Myguy bought extra pavers and said he's gonna  cement them  in front of the door there.

This is the back side.

And this is the very front.

The floor is pavers with sand, and the roof
is clear panels.  I think one pane of glass has a small crack, and in this photo
you can see two panes that are clouded.  Myguy said he'd put new ones in if I wanted but
I like em just the way they are.  I'm olde n vintage... not new and fancy.

One of the first things I carried  inside was the olde writing desk my friend Cindi brought to me.
I'd thought about turning it into a potters bench but ... it was her Grandmother's writing desk
and I want to use it the same way.  Except right here in the garden.  The top had all been cut out of it for her daughters wheelchair to slide into so it needed something... -- Myguy cut some rough boards for me and it's gonna get
a little more shabbied uP.  I'm leaning towards jadite green and distressed. Maybe a little backsplash type of thing nailed on with some rusty chicken wire.  I was so happy to sit right here today and read my bible while watching it rain.

Did you notice Mr. Owl?  He's seen better days but we found him perched on a shelf at a flea market in Fort Smith.    I love him holes n all.  His eyes are all weathered over but I don't care.  I'm messed up too.
Once I got to start bringing plants in here I went a little crazy repotting everything.
I felt like a little girl with a dollhouse.
Add almost 50 years to that and you just  have
a woman with a shabby olde shed.

Myguy worked so hard.  Aside from building, he  moved the electric and put a brand new
outlet in.  There's a new light now and a place for a radio too!
Over the Winter the hydrant broke, so
even that got fixed.  I'd get soppin wet
everytime I turned the thing on before!

This little ladder was actually broken and the bantys were using it
to roost, but I thought it'd make a useful plant stand.   Myguy cut me one of the decrepit boards he'd torn off the potting shed
to make another little shelf to set plants on.  He's actually getting used to me wanting to save the shabbiest lookin boards now.  lol   I gave it a quick brush of turquoise  but still
need to sand the edges.
This olde door has been in our bedroom for two-three years now.
The story was; it's from the 1800's.
You can tell it's been well loved over the years and was  sized up n down alot!  It had
weird locks screwed on it, and the wood is very primitive.
It seemed just right to go between the potting shed and green house.

The flowers in the vase etched in  glass
seem to whisper: "grow girl!"
Myguy had to cut it down even more but it seems a good fit.  A shabby olde door for a shabby olde shed.
To the left of this  door is another row of windows but I wanted something solid to the right
because behind it is a sink that I didn't want to be visible from this side.  ...One day while perusing my favorite Antique shoppe I found the ceiling panels and someone had nailed a little frame around them to hang them as wall art.  They worked well  nailed vertically in this spot.  Especially with this chalkboard.    It all started to feel like things were coming together right there.

Here's a view with the door opened as it goes up into the potting shed side.
Oh and I almost forgot.  This week we did go on a few car hauling runs.  Everytime we dropped everything to go we'd say, "this will pay for the wood, or this will buy the french door. lol
On one of our out runnin times; we were driving through Scranton and I saw this little house with
all these wash tubs out back.  I asked Myguy if he'd stop and we went up to the door to ask if any were for sale.  The man said they were his wife's and she'd just went for a walk.  He called her cell and she came back home. ... We had the most delightful visit.  Her husband wanted us to look in his shed coz he too collected lots of antiques over the years.  He had alot of cool stuff but his wife and I share many similar interests.  She sold us this washtub and then of all things; Myguy bought a van off the man!  I kid you not.  Having a mechanic shop and farm we end up with alot of scrap metal and wire.  He likes vans to use as a vessel to haul farm wire.  So we had to go back a couple days later and it was another great visit.  It was one of those times where I felt like ... there's more to all this than washtubs and a van ya know?  A dot connected for bigger purpose maybe?

The evening the storms started rolling in I was out there listening to my ipod.
Over my music I heard "something."
A dragonfly visitor... had flown
inside!  I caught it and held it for a moment.  Grabbing my phone;

I snapped a couple photos while it sat on my hand.
As soon as I walked through the doorway to the outside... it
flew away.
dragonfly kisses xoxo

For He shall give His angels charge over thee to keep thee in all thy ways.
This special scripture and thoughts of my dragonfly visitor stayed with me throughout the bumpy night ahead.

The clouds got ugly and it stormed pretty bad.
Thankfully we had no damage.  The power went out in the night but came back
on in the morning.

It rained all day the following day.
It's now time to mow again and till as soon as the soil dries out.
This will be the last week of the peonies.
I wish you could have smelled their lovely fragrance while we worked all week.

Well, that's all for now.
Thank you for visiting the olde shed.
xoxo

Abiding, Planting and Scripture Pictures

 Hi friends,
.... Last year was there; what.. one wisteria bloom or two maybe?
This year, they're bloomin their little heads off behind the shabby olde Potting shed, and
I find myself lingering... right here... with Him.
It's quiet... and I can hear best in this very spot.

Yesterday, they were forecasting showers- so...
I snuck in the shop and stole Trent away for a minute
or two.
He seeks  God... and I think hears Him too
-maybe especially out there... in the garden.

Where we goin Momma? he asked as we headed out the door.
--Well, it's supposed to rain, and  it could be gone tomorrow.... so I just want you to see it.
Experience it all..... (our God)
--and I know  He did.
He even stood beneath a wisteria bloom and inhaled face upward.....
My heart... skipped happy!  Coz my manchild-son  could feel Him...-I just know it.
When we walked back into the shop, Myguy asked what we were doing?  He knows
that when I need some muscle I ask to borrow Trento  sometimes.
Trent smiled and said, ... Well, sometimes you just gotta stop
and smell the flowers.
:)
"Look into the flowers... they are your glimpse into heaven" said my friend Fancynancy.
---and so I  share wisteria with you today... with a scripture God gave me.
"I am the Vine,
you are the branches
He who abides in Me,
and I in him bears much fruit;
for without Me,
you can do nothing."
John 15:5
(There's that word ABIDE again!)
It's standing out to me alot ... in part because I realize and confess I haven't been in the word enough lately...

Moving on...all this past week; although the weather has been up
and down...the flowers are still
hanging in there.
Thankfully; it hasn't dipped below freezing here like weather many of you
are enduring.  Tonight it could frost however, so once again
flowers will be getting covered and buckets will go over tiny yet persevering  tomato plants.
Maybe this will be the last cold night?
I'm hoping...
and believing!

So far; these lil guys haven't been  phased at all.
- I think they kinda like the cold rainy days.

Scrambling for vessels in which to plant:   the olde Maytag was planted in more tunies..  Myguy helped  set it on steel plates  so it wouldn't sink; and then filled it up with rocks and potting soil.   This is actually the second time I've planted this Spring.
First go around all I had was pink and purple petunias and ... the red on the wringer part just didn't seem right with them.  So after soaking in the "Maytag"  a couple days ... they went into pots instead and these reds took  their place. When
dumping out  some old dirt from last years pots that never got cleaned, out popped
another cute toad.    Kinda wondered if there'd be one inside  Bigdaddy's
other boots but when dumping them out ... found not a one.
Now that the pots and boots all have fresh soil and flowers, I wonder
how long until a darling toad takes up residence in those ole  boots again.
I do hope soon!

A few other things have started blooming here....
This is Miss Clematis's first bloom of  Spring.

 in full blossom.
I wish they lasted a bit longer...
don't you?

 Aside from planting,
some of the garden junk has been getting moved here and there too.
Planted chairs, the sewing machine, and garden sink full of birdseed too.
This tub was brought home from a recent yard sale adventure.
I'd never seen one in  this pattern before, have you?    My Sisterbear said it's
a bushel/grain type. A bushel of zucchini, cukes, maters, .... cantaloupe?
..... happysigh... just imagine a real vine ripened tomato about now.
With the salt shaker of course!

This is the newest  flower bed and the  "Angel Mother" memorial  roses now live in it.
They were kinda struggling where they were growing before. So I hope they snap out of it and
get lots of SONshine here.  If I don't run out of gumption too soon tonight
I'd like to stencil a little sign for this spot:
Beware of Snapdragons
(they were marked down to 84cents this week and are now guarding the roses.)

Over the weekend my sweetheart helped drag the old 48 Chevy out of the back pasture.
He got it for me years and years ago and it's just sat in the back pasture growing lichens.
The glass is good in it but the floors  are pretty much gone in the cab and bed  so a rat had also taken up residence.
When I cleaned out the cab I never saw it... but trust me... he's been there... a long time.  ick*
Myguy used the pressure washer on it for me and then I pulled him in the truck on the four wheeler to  the cornpatch.  So while the chevy  dried from it's bath,

 the picnic table got painted.....
and later on.... with this leftover turquoise...
started on the truck.

...Oh; ...forgot to mention that this was found in the cab with the rat stuff  and it now blooms on a fencepost.
Does it look like a rusty
"chevy flower" to you??
.... okay...hold  your mouth just right and squint harder....
Now does it?

With no floorboard in the bed of the truck;
sunflowers are now planted  to grow out the back....
It's abit shaded... we'll wait n see what happens?
After this picture was taken the olde tiller made one more
sweep up and down along  the passenger side
and a couple hollyhocks and a mess
of zinnia seed  jumped in the row.  God willing
this cornpatch and flower truck will
now take root.

This verse was in my lesson this morning.
It seemed right to share today.
Let brotherly love continue
Hebrews 13:1
More love!

Have a blessed day today... abiding, loving
and growing in Him.
Love,   Lea
