Checking off to do lists feels so good doesn't it?
It's that sweet satisfaction like sitting in the porch swing with a big
glass of ice tea after all the mowing is done. Just looking at it all and
enjoying the moment. It's soooo good.
You wanna lap it up and keep it all just like this for as long as
you possibly can.
Except for me... my mind dreams of all that space and what I could plant there.
I really need to wait though and .. let the grass and weeds die under the plastic til Fall.
My next saint to read about and document is St Rose of Lima.
I love that she grew flowers and did needlework to sell and help her family and
also made lace and embroidery to sell to help the poor.
That she marred her beauty when men began taking notice of her...
and performed severe penances in secret makes me wish I could ask her questions. She took a vow of virginity against her parents wishes
and ended up being a recluse except for going to church.
When I read she made a little grotto herself for place to pray...
it inspires me to want to make some kind of grotto in my garden.
Reading her story... I just wish I could have known her.
She was so young... just imagine what went on in their household?
Her parents wanted her to get married.... but she did not.
She went so far as to cut her hair off and burn her face to deter interest from guys!! Imagine the horror
of that!! ..-- if you were the parent and your child went to that extreme.
I also read she was a good friend and confidant of St. Martin de Porres.
I have not looked him up yet but apparently
they lived in the same city. I wonder about the friendship they had?
My mind goes in all these directions. Were they about the same age?
How did people react that they were opposite sex and good friends?
I know the important thing is that they were steadfast in their faith and love for God but
I can't help but want to know what life was like?
Anyways, I made a little charm of her today.
using a vintage optical lens because it seemed fitting
to have a cross on the top of it.
And a Rose in the bottle.
There is something about the light streaming through this window ..
and the botanicals of nature that keeps me photographing it...
Don't mind the sheets and clothes hanging on the line in the background...
it's just real life.
Speaking of which I had better go gather eggs and
find something for supper.
I sign off with a scripture picture to share with you.
This is an old door against a wall in our bedroom with
one of the fleur bundles on the shelf.
Ephesians 3: 16-19 was in my reading today.
From me to you.
Until we meet again!

Good day Lea,
How interesting to read about St Rose of Lima and finding out about her, I love that you research and share. It is quite hard for us to understand what life must have been like then. I think your charm in the optical lens is so unusual and creative and of course the beautiful rose in the bottle. Thank you for the scripture picture and the fleur bundle.
Have a lovely evening. God Bless
Hey Jeanie! It all started with your Julian woman of Norwich for me! I am loving studying about our brothers and sisters who have gone before us. I get this strength reading about them and their walk. But I wish we could know more. You start to feel like you get to know them reading their story but then you want to ask questions we can't know this side of heaven. Studying the saints is something I want to do always I think.
Thank you for your sweet encouragements ... you are so fun to share life with. Give Ghyllie a hug for me... and a scooby snack. God bless you too friend, Lea
