Sitting at an olde farmtable with bible opened and chestnut and clove candle flickering....
...I began thinking of my family.
At our house we have this saying:
I love you more.
My Momma started it and it just
stuck.
We all like it,
say it, and
look for new ways to prove it
beyond just the saying,
but also in the doing.
Like:
when Myguy grabs me out of the blue,
Dipping me back like he's Fred Astaire; and kissing
longer than a peck. It makes me giggle hard and suddenly
I'm loved... more.
Like...
the love birds with all their
pepperoni- heart pizza,
and her writing him love notes in chalk,
For toasted sloppy joe buns,
his favorite chocolate sundaes with nuts,
and finding that surprise heating pad
warming under the blanket
to crawl into.
So many kindnesses and sweet
little ways to love on
one another...
more.
This morning I sat thinking about these love mores.
and I'm thankful for all of it.
Reading in the book of John I know ....
That God loves more and
most of all
Because all of love... every bit of it comes
from Him.
We love because he first loved us.
"Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us."

You are loved! :)
Lea, I wasn't raised in a home where love was expressed much in words or acts of kindness. So, when I became an adult, a hug or a random niceness from someone bowled me over. I'm so glad for the people who came into my life and showed me that little, everyday acts of kindness can mean more than anything to one that is frustrated, hurting, or disappointed. And it costs almost nothing to do it, yet means everything to the receiver.
Funny that you quoted that verse, "We love Him because He first loved us." It was the first verse I ever learned in the Beginner Dept. of our Sunday School. I can remember running to the car with my little paper with the star on it because I knew my verse! And what an important thing for me to learn at that age: That in all my imperfections and self-centeredness, He still loved me. . . and still does! That last part is even more amazing, that after botching up life so much, He still loves me. Such a sweet and important post today, Lea! Just beautiful!
Oh Lea-this made me smile-we have that very same saying-our son started it when he was little. And this one too-"I love you more than a posted sign!" But "I love you more" will always touch my heart....
I meant to tell you how beautiful that picture in your header of the horse is-gosh-it's lovely.
I john is one of my all time favorite books in the BIble. It is one of those "in your face" kinda books. The running themes..God is light..God is love.. God is life! Love your "Love Mores" and yes, He love us most of all. Ohhh the sweet, sweet love of Jesus. Blessings!
"I love you more" was/is our youngest daughter's phrase. It made me so lonesome for her just to read it here!
I still need to compose music for a Scripture song this week. I think I'll try one from that I John passage and see how it goes :)
♪ I am SO glad that Jesus loves me....Jesus loves even me ♪
My Frank tells me he loves me all the time....I usually say love you more back to him. My grandson told me...love you Nonnie on his way out the door to work the other day and it still warms my heart. Love is so important to share.
JESUS LOVES ME, this I know...for the BIBLE tells me so........this post got me singing!! Have a BLESSED and LOVED weekend, Lea! Roxie
This post was very sweet. My sister and I constantly say this to each other.
Love your post Lea. Warm and sincere as always, giving us a virtual hug and a verse from Scripture to start the day. Love you.
