Hello friends,
Thought I'd jump on here and share this little wren with yall.
I learned another lesson the hard way last night.
So... time got away from me last evening and I was out closing coop doors
almost in the dark. My last little chore was to get our crippled rooster out of
an outside dog pen and carry him into the greenhouse where he sleeps
in a dog crate in front of the electric heater. (Yes I know I know I know... crazy)
But it's still better than him sleeping in our house every night. Since he's learned
to crow that wasn't going over real well and that's why
I moved him to the greenhouse. Well... I had a pile of Indian corn on a cupboard
inside the greenhouse and mice found it. They ruined it totally. So I bought some sticky
traps and put them around the floor in there. I'd caught three so far. One sticky trap was left in there.
So in the dark I'm carrying the roo inside and I can see the sticky trap is not where I left it but in the middle of the floor and something was flopping on it.
Yeah you guessed it.
Not a mouse at all but this poor little wren.
Omg... it was the most pitiful sight... and I had to at least try to get it off there.
I carried the sticky trap to the door and two cats were already standing on the other side
I guess they heard the commotion.
Once in the house.. I started to rack my brain.
What to do what to do what to do????
I carried it to the kitchen sink and started warm water.
We use the blue Dawn dishwashing liquid... you know the kind they use to
wash ducks in oil spills? I figured it would probably be safe for a wren if they use it on ducks.
So I squirted that all over it's tiny tiny tiny little feet. Yall to pull on this little legs with that glue... ohmygosh.... but lo and behold... it worked! They came off the trap! I knew I couldnt just let it go until it dried off and calmed down plus I wasn't sure if it had broken legs I mean????
So I grabbed an antique bird cage and carried it into our bedroom and put it in that. In about
1.5 seconds it was out. Omg ... Squeezed right through that cage wire like it wasn't even nothin.
Now it's loose in our bedroom.
And legs? Yeah they worked.
Fast.
I closed the doors and tried to push jackets under neath them to keep it at least to one room. When I turned around it was gone. Scanning the room this is where she was.
Is that not the cutest thing ever?
She was just hanging out on a bucket my friend gave me for my birthday.
It has bark on it. It went to bark. Of course.
Had to grab my phone and snap a couple pics.
When I tried to catch her she jumped down ran under dressers, our bed... -
...45 minutes later in a butterfly net I finally caught her.
I carried her right back to the greenhouse ...
promised her I'd never use another sticky trap again.
Then I let her go inside. She can come and go under the eaves on the front.
Must be how she got inside in the first place.
This morning when I went out there to get the roo; I looked around for her a little bit.
Never saw her but there are lots of places she could be.
I filled a dish full of fresh water and later I'll probably put some birdseed
by the water.
I hope it's little wing will be okay ... I don't know?
It could not fly very well.
I will never use a sticky trap out there again!
Hope this finds you all well.
It's hard to believe Christmas is almost upon us isn't it?
Things are so different this year.
Our house is so tore up outside... and our roofer isn't coming back until
the first week of January now. It's really disappointing but what can ya do other
than be patient. We have no outdoor lights this year... no outdoor nativity...
I haven't baked anything for others... I mean who would even want it? lol
We're still coughing our heads off. Alot of presents didn't get done the way we normally do
because of being quarantined. But that's okay. None of it really matters and
what does... still is... and He is Christmas.
So today I will open my bible... do my advent lesson and count my blessings.
Things may look different this year...
But love is still love.
So we will do what we can... and celebrate the King.
Until we meet again.
<*)))><

Good day Lea, and great news to know that you are on the mend and able to do chores, phew!! what a time you have had, both of you and family.
Those teeny tiny wrens are something else. I often wonder how they get through the bleak mid winter. I am glad you were able to rescue that little one but what an adventure you both had!
Take care and keep getting stronger. Sending Blessings.
God Bless
Atta girl!!! Your heart and head have a great attitude and focusing on what really matters will continue to be a blessing for you. I am so sorry things got disruptive for your holidays. It is so good to know that our Jesus is still the same through all of this crazy year. Love you friend, and praying for you❤
