One Down One To Go, Fairytale Weekend and.. Learn From My Mistake!

 Hi Yall...
Sorry I've been invisible but we had our grandgirl all weekend.
I am still just draggin today. I'm tellin ya.. there's a reason that young women
have the kiddos.  We do love that we get to share in her life so much though.  It's
such a great blessing for us.

Last I wrote, I was about to tackle my overgrown  flower beds.
I managed to get them pretty well cleaned and weeded then got some plastic put down.
Here's how the first bed turned out... and since then I did get several more bags of mulch so
the second one is on my to do list this afternoon. Wish I had another Thomas Merton book to listen to while I work.  I am currently listening to The Dutch House by Ann Patchett on audiobook.  Guess who reads it?   Tom Hanks!  How cool is that?  So far it's pretty good.  Makes hard, hot work so much more enjoyable being read a great story.   I'll be so happy to have this flower bed done today!!

Other than that I got nothing done over the weekend but lovin  on my little sugarpie.
She has her own drawer in my art porch where I keep adding little things for her
to color and art with.  She discovered new little mushroom sticky notes in there this time and her eyes lit up and all she wanted to do was write a letter to the gnome .  We have a real live gnome here in case you hadn't heard.
--He lives in the hollowed out Lightning tree.   Earlier when Blake got here and went to her mudkitchen she discovered
her little adirondak chair was turned over.  I really don't know how it happend?  She thought it was just terrible though ... and I told her maybe the gnome did it??   Ohhhhmygosh the imagination in her little head went full throttle.
After she wrote her letter she had to put two little andes mint chocolates inside  the envelope and
off we headed to the Lightning tree.

She got it all lookin the way she liked and

left it at his door.
There's this hole that goes down into the ground of the stump and she
thinks he lives down inside the tree.
She was so excited!
This morning I went out there and took her adirondak chair and set it beside the tree,
along with one of her little teacups and saucer like the gnome had a cuppa tea.
Of course then I had to -open her envelope and yesssssss I ate the chocolates... :)
Cmon wouldn't you? haha
I made her the heart of black eyed susies and left the chocolate wrappers littered on the ground
to take the picture up above.  Then I sent it to her Mommy and left a voice message on it to Blakelea telling her what I found...
Her Mommy wrote back and said she loved it!!!   Soo now we are gonna have to have this
new thing with the gnome you know.  Gonna be a fun summer!!

We did have a little traumatic episode while she was here though
that I'll share so hopefully it doesn't happen to any of  you if you have little girls or grandgirls.
So... she loves to play dress up like most little princesses.   I want to be a fun Grammy so I try hard to find her little dresses and fancy things
for her to play with.  -Even get her costumes etc and she will wear them
all day long... Princess this and Princess that.
Well I got her this new one ... and it came with everything... including earrings.
cooool.... I thought.   (It will be fun they said) --uhuh.
She loved it all and
was wearing the earrings  all day .. even when she'd go swimming.. or would change into different outfits..
she kept those earbobs on.  Come evening I gave her a bath and started to  take the first earrings off.  Yall it was  so dadgum stuck.  I couldn't get it off..  what the heck?  She started to cry... and somehow I finally I got it  off.  Her little ear was soooooooooo red and she was still crying!!.  I felt horrible!!!!!
I had to get the other one off... and she would have nothing of it.    It was an ORDEAL. I got her out of the tub and dressed... but she wouldn't let me even look at it.   I yelled for Papa... she adores him  and she actually laid her head down to let him look at it ...  it was so red yall.    You should beable to pull them right off... they are little clip earrings!!!!!!  We were  about ready to call her Mom and Dad it was that bad.  It had to come off... it really looked like it was cuttin the circulation off.
By the grace of God.. Papa finally got it off.. She cried so hard  and she was just sure her ear came off with it.  She had to look in the mirror to make sure they were both okay.   No kidding.  So ... learn from my mistake.  If you put little storebought clip earbobs on your grandkid... make sure first... before you put them on that they aren't able to get too tight.   Don't just assume they're fine.  It was anything but fine. These somehow would pinch tighter trying to get them off?   It all turned out okay .. she's totally fine and still loves us...  but I'm sure our earbob days are over.

Well I better get after that last flower bed... if I can get caught up around here..
maybe there will be time to grab the fishing pole!
Until we meet again
<*(((><

Dear Lea what a huge ordeal with the earrings. Who would have ever thought clip ons would be that tight. Glad to read that it all worked out well in the end. Ah to be a child again living in a magical make believe place. I am sure you were tired but it had to be a good tired. By the way I am off to do some weeding too. Have a blessed evening. Hugs!

Hi Debbie! Ohmyword yes I'd never had guessed anything like that could happen? We tried to just open the clip up you know but that seemed like it was actually pinching her .. maybe back by the hinged part... I don't know if skin was in there or what? They were real chintzy coming with a little costume but still I never gave it a thought something could happen with them. Poor lil thing! Hope your weeding went well... it's getting so hot here... I'm about to let more of the weeds just have their way! Hope you are getting some painting in! Your art inspires me so much.

Good day Lea, oh my what a fraught day you had with little grand girl, I can only imagine how you all were and it must have been worrisome. Glad it worked out ok. Phew!!! I was just thinking about the gnome who travelled from Scotland and ended up all smashed and you fixed him back together. Maybe he lives in that tree with his cousin...haha!!! I should send him some shortbread to share with his friends when relaxing on his chair. :)

Believe it or not I just received this morning, Mildred Budge in Cloverdale, so I am looking forward to reading it tonight. You have probably finished it by now so I will have to catch up....

Thank you for sharing your days. I love the little flower heart you made. It is always heartwarming those little things that mean sooooo much. Blessings and Joy. <*)))><

Yes your little scottish gnome may well be the one taking her things.. ha! This will be fun to carry on throughout summer.
I'm sooo glad you got your book. No I've not gotten through it yet... there have been so many other things I've been reading... there are just never enough hours in a day are there? We will read it together though! Much Love from the shed...
