Hi friends,
Lately; I've enjoyed watching the caterpillars grow that are feeding
on fennel in my garden. It's amazing really how fast they double in size.. and so on.
They're voracious eaters!
Most are swallowtails I think...
I have quite a few butterflies visiting too and today this one
was happily dining on Shasta daisies. It made me think of the movie
You've got mail. "Once I read a story about a butterfly in the subway and today, I saw one. It got on at 42nd, and off at 59th, where, I assume it was going to Bloomingdales to buy a hat that will turn out to be a mistake, as almost all hats are." - Kathleen Kelly. (I love that sweet, romantic movie... and now
wish I could see it again.)
In the early Spring I planted pink milkweed near the other milkweeds and orange butterfly weed growing on the other side of our pasture. I don't have paths up to them so
I rode the fourwheeler out there today to check them all.
-You don't walk through tall weeds in Arkansas. (chiggers, seed ticks, snakes)
So far I can't find the pink milkweed I planted.
I don't understand it really... surely some of my seeds grew?
I was shocked to find these two on the other side of the woods.
My two guineas! I turn them out every day now. When the others that I used to have
started wandering too far they began disappearing and I'd find piles of feathers.
I bet the coyotes picked them off. Hope these two fair better.
I rode the four wheeler as close to the butterfly weed as I could but it was still
quite aways to get a good photo. In this one you can see the caterpillars tho.
I'm so happy they are feeding on them.
I was happy too that real honeybees were here.
We hardly have any in our garden at the house. It's mostly
just carpenter bees in my flowers.
There were two swallowtails fluttering about and one monarch.
It makes me so happy to see them here.
Well, I sign off with one more quote from You've got mail.
Aren't they the friendliest flower?!!
Until we meet again,
<*(((><

Good morning Lea,
I have always been amazed, the miracle that is a caterpillar turning into a butterfly. I haven't seen the film but I love the quotes. So true.
Since the grass hasn't been cut in our parks there are lots of buttercups, daisies and clover growing happily for the bees to enjoy! (one good thing about lockdown).
Thank you for sharing and for the Scripture pic. Hope you have a beautiful day.

I finally have a little start of milkweed in my flower bed. I hope it spreads. So far I haven't seen any butterflies enjoying it.
Lovely pictures and post Lea.. as always.. I so enjoy reading your post. You inspire me so much with your pictures and words. Thanks for that... I love your milk weed. Mine is up and I have a few nibbles. But haven't seen any catapilliars yet.... but hopefully soon...
