New Discoveries

 Mowing at my AngelMother's today;
I started around her Magnolia tree then spotted

 something "red."
What a delight to discover the little pods going to seed.
Seriously I never noticed this before.  I'd never even thought about the pods
busting out in seeds like this.  The other times I've mowed it was blooming but ...
never have I seen it go to seed.  Timing I guess?
When I finished, I went home and got my camera to take these pictures and
I grabbed a couple pods too.
Googling them I learned that I can grow more magnolia trees.
There are no baby trees growing around the base of this one so they must be
tricky but I'm gonna give it a try.  It says it helps to soak them overnight and then you
gotta get the exterior off ... we'll see how that goes.
Maybe one day there will be more Magnolia trees growing down by the woods,
thanks to the  AngelMother Magnolia here.

Recently out "junkin" we came upon this
"coal miner's canary cage."
It's all handmade from ... tin cans?
The inside of the door has writing on it...
it was made from an old "battery."
Someone spent alot of time making it and
it's very strong.  It'd be cute hanging from a tree,  but
I hate to mess it up outdoors so it might make a good ribbon/lace holder
in my craft room.
You never know what you're gonna find?!
Don't you wish this cage could tell it's story?

Have a great weekend,
Lea

A cheery post as always, Lea. I hope the magnolia seeds germinate and you have more trees. A coincidence...I recently heard of a miner who now breeds and shows canaries almost in honour of those canaries who died and saved miners' lives.

I bet the reason why you never seen the pods before is I'm sure many critters ate them! lol Can't wait to see if you get some to sprout, love those magestic trees!
