A Vintage Card Holder Thinga-Majiggy

Yesterday I had to clean out my iphone photos and came upon a few of the vintage card thingamajiggy I made.  I'd shared these pics with a couple of friends who have decided to make one as well and so I decided to share them with all of you  too.

I can already hear some of you ask, Now "what" is this  exactly?
Good question-- maybe you'll come up with a better name.
But here it is:

It's made from a vintage book and is a place to keep momentos...  little cards of INSPIRATION.
I was actually looking on Pinterest one day and came across one that a gal had made.  It reminded me of the first one I saw in one of my old Somerset Studio Magazines:
Here's the photo of the one from in  the magazine.
I remember when I first saw it saying to myself, "I wanna make one!"
The gal on Pinterest actually wrote that she saw it first in the Somerset magazine too.
Anyways... Re- Inspired;  I set about looking for an olde book.

This one I bought at a thrift I think... -- I can't remember how many pages it has..480some I believe.
Anyways, I divided it in about half and folded half the pages in one way, then the other
half the other way so they'd all lay right.
It sounds overwhelming but it goes fast coz you can actually fold several pages
at a time and then just quickly separate them.

So here it is with the pages all folded.
I bought the  turquoise knobs  at Hobby Lobby and they were
already the color I wanted.
See the mat board sittin under it?  I already had it for another project
and I used it to glue under the book for strength.  In this picture obviously
it's not straight... -- just peeking out so you can see what it is.
You really would probably need something strong like that to glue beneath it
because it finishes it off well and gives you something to glue into when you stick the knobs
in the spine area.  On the very bottom of the mat board I painted mine black first not that it
really matters but...
Gluing the knobs was a pain in the butt!  I used E6000 and by the time I was done
.... me, Addie and Francoise (dogs) all thought we could maybe fly if we flapped our wings.
shewww. that stuff is strong smellin!    I think if I make another one I'll try my glue gun instead unless the knobs are metal.  Mine are wood.  Real door knobs would be super cute.

Once the knobs set up- (next day)
I then used pretty papers and glued those down to decorate it,
and then used an old piano hymnal on top of that.
These are some of the cards I inserted in mine.
This one I got in Ft Collins last trip when I was there in February.
This is a card I got from the wife of the donor who gave me my bone grafts
for my teeth!!!  My donors name was BOB.  Every time I read this card I cry.
It's a card I'll treasure forever!
This card of my Good Shepherd is one I got at the Loretto Chapel.
Just this morning I was reading about knowing my
Shepherds voice.
This one came in my mail recently from a friend.
You know who you are!!!!
Then I started making a bunch more.
A friend made me some tags and to make them fit,
I cut them in two and then used my corner punch on them and
strung them with the fancy ribbons she sent!
This one was a God thing.
One morning I woke up actually "Laughing" and had the word
LAUGH right on my mind. I've never done that before.  I've woke up with a song on my mind, or a word... or remembering a dream... but never laughing!    It was so cool and wouldn't ya know...
looking in my stash of art supplies... there was this  tab that says LAUGH right on it.
Ha Ha!
(Did you laugh?)
Coz that merry heart thing does  good like a medicine!

Another friend once sent me Phil 4:8 in her own handwriting.
I love how she wrote: Dear Sister on it too.

This one came by Royal Mail!
Thanks Jeanie!!

-- There's lots more and
I'm having fun with it.   I can tell it's something that's going to keep right on growing.

To further age the whole book part a little bit; instead of spraying all the pages too dark,
I just dipped a paintbrush right in my bottle of glimmer mist and and painted it on some of the edges.
Also it helped camouflage some of the glue that I got too gloppy with around the spine when
inserting the knobs.

-- That's it!
A vintage card holder Thingamajiggy.

It kinda looks like a typewriter slash rolodex slash thing?
A friend and I wrote an email back n forth to eachother trying to figure out
what to call it?
What do you think?

What a wonderful place to put sentimental cards, notes etc! Your Thinga-Majiggy is the perfect name! This reminds me when I was a young girl, my Dad would call "things" that!! He's been gone over 20 yrs and I forgot he used that word until I saw this post....It brought back special memories. By-the-way, he would say "thinga-majigg" (maybe that's the guy version) Very sweet post...Blessings~~~Roxie

Oh it's lovely-I wouldn't know what to call it-but it doesn't need a name! It's funny, I wanted to make one of those folded book page things too, and saved some instructions so I could do it.
The quote from Philippians made me get teary-eyed. I've been thinking about when Paul wrote certain books. Didn't he write that book from prison?! He knew where JOY comes from.....

I think "Thingamagiggy" sounds just perfect!!!! You did such an excellent job, Lea, and as you add more and more, it will become more meaningful. Please do more pictures down the road ---- I love seeing all those tags, etc., popping up out of that thing. As soon as life settles down a bit here, I'm getting back to mine. The pages are folded, but that's as far as I've gotten.
LOVE IT!!!!!

Love to see your creativity Lea. Hobby Lobby sounds like a good store for supplies. The book idea is a cute way to keep those special cards and tags from friends and friends like you are precious. Bless You. J x
