I Wonder If She Made It........

So the other night I was knee deep in zinnias, and tomatoes, and... well; ... very thriving weeds.  Sweat was running off the end of my nose... and  out of the blue... I hear this  strange sound.  I stopped what I was doing... and stood up straight- rubbing my lower back as I listened a bit  harder.
Nothin.  Did I imagine it?  I guessed  so.
Back to work; I set about deadheading more zinnias and then finished picking tomatoes; a whole wooden crate full.

"Maaa.....aaa....."  There it was again!
I walked out of the tomato row, and rounded the crepe myrtle and Harry Lauders Walking stick when I saw her.  There stood a  beautiful brown and white Nanny.  She looked part Nubian  with maybe a little Alpine mixed in.  She was just standing there; in the middle of our driveway.  Approaching  slowly; ... I  put out my hand, palm up.  She was panting hard.  And then I noticed the blood.  Her neck was very swollen in one place and bloodied bad in another.  "Hey girl.... easy now."  - then..."Ohmygosh... you poor thing!"   There was  "something" hanging out of her throat that... shouldn't have been and  inspecting  her more closely, ... it looked like maybe dogs had gotten ahold of her.  My eyes then scanned our property and the woods but I never saw or heard a thing.

"What am I going to do with you girl?"  I couldn't just leave her loose because whatever chased her here... must still be out there..  First I tried to carry her.  But there was no way; I couldn't even budge her.   She was much heavier than she looked.  So then I tried to kinda pull  her into our fenced in yard.  She staggered and then nearly fell down.  I ran to the barn and got a small bucket of sweet feed to coax her.  It worked! (While I enticed her with the bucket, I noticed  an SUV out on the road driving very slowly... ) Little... by little the nanny staggered her way to the safety of our fenced in area.  I closed the gate, and when looking up noticed the same SUV going back by... the other way.  I latched the gate, and walked up  the driveway toward the road.  They slowed up even more, so I  started waving my arms to flag them down.  They turned in and came up our long driveway.  It was a Mom, Dad, and little girl.  I said, "Please tell me you're looking for a goat."  All three exclaimed "Yes!!!!"  "Come with me,"  I said.

Once they got out and saw their sweet goat,  their faces fell.  They told me where they lived  and that dogs had come into their yard and gotten  ahold of her; chasing  her off.  None of us could believe how far she'd come...not to mention that she  was still alive. It's strange too that  ...I go past their place every time I go to town and I've seen their goats; but never recognized  her. Several people own goats around us and I'd have never guessed that  this one lived the furthest of them all away.

Anyway, they wasted no time.  The dad reached down and picked her up; loading her into the back of their silver rig.   Then they  thanked me and headed out.  As their vehicle began to leave the worried little girl had her window down and looked into my eyes and sweetly said "Goodbye!!!"   ........ I thought about them so often throughout the night and prayed their little goat would survive.

My next trip to town, I looked for the goats  as I drove by their place.
I saw nothing.
The trip after that... nothing...-no goats, and no people either?
Usually kids are playing, and goats are grazing...

And so I  wonder if something more will become of this story?
Was there a reason Nanny  showed up on our driveway?
I'd never met this family before.
But somehow it felt as if  this path could be  crossed with a  bigger purpose...
I'm recording it tonight... to remember.

....And so I  wonder?..........

Holykisses xoxo

Hmmmm...I'm interested now too...maybe you can stop by their house to see how the goat is? Maybe it's God leading you to them???
What an unusual story, Lea.

I too wonder when GOD puts things like this in our way, what is the purpose? You did well, you showed this couple there are still good people here on this earth that will help the helpless.

I too pray the goat made it.

She was placed with you for a reason... and we both know that reason. Your heart is giving and caring Lea, and that goat knew she would be safe in your driveway!
Love you and the way you give and care....
