A Colorful Drive

Greetings and Holykisses,

Yesterday afternoon, Myguy and I headed into the mountains to enjoy our peak week for color.
It was so beautiful....
I took 244 pictures.
Don't worry I didn't post them all here... but I thought you might like to come along for a lil drive.
We love to take the back roads.
And for the most part, ...this was our view.
In several places we'd just pull over and go exploring.

Old barns, cabins, church's and homesteads always call for "pullin over."
Especially if they're abandoned.
This old place had cows right behind the house. When I got out to take photos on the road, the cows came to the fence like they were big pets and wondering where I was hiding their buckets of sweet feed. Then I wondered about the farmer.
Was this where he grew up?
I hope we drive by again someday.
Maybe when the snow flies?

The woods were so vibrant.
Vibrant and still. -Except for the birds and falling leaves.
There's a place we like to go called Strawberry Bluff.
It had been so long since we'd been there and we weren't sure we could find it again.
Off to one side of the road is this trail that leads to it. We finally found it....
and made the short hike down to the bluffs.

It was the most beautiful day.
And there's just something about the way God uses mountain top experiences
in me...
to fan this sometimes flickering heart.

"Thus saith the LORD, The heaven is my throne,
and the earth is my footstool: where is the house
that ye build unto me? and where is the place of my rest?"
Isaiah 66:1

We sat awhile and just tried to take it all in;
--we had so little time.
And neither of us wanted the day to end.
These purple flowers were in full bloom.

From this point alot of the leaves were still green.
Maybe... we'll be able to go back before they're
all gone

This type of moss seems to really like and grow well on this bluff.
Isn't it pretty?

We hung out here awhile til we heard four wheelers coming up the road.
Then decided to head out and see what else we could find.

This is a cave down at the bottom of the rocks.
Maybe next time we'll try to make our way down there.

I really don't know where we ended up. We took so many back roads but at one point we
found an old cemetery out in the woods. It reminds me a little of the one in the woods by our own house. We pulled over and looked around.
I loved this headstone.
We realized looking at it that it's Nellie's birthday today!

I absolutely love the rose on her stone.

While we walked around we heard noises in the woods.
Myguy thought they were turkeys.
? -- Hmm... I thought I heard a grunt.
Yikes....

We saw so many pretty leaves.
I think these are Sumac.
Our Strongheart would probably know for sure. He ahem... picked some
one year when he was a kid for a school leaf project.
We learned ya don't want to do that.
I believe the name is actually poison sumac?
He broke out with the worse hives you ever saw.
-Then, ended up at the doctor for medicine and a shot.
He did get an A on his project though. :)
I think I still have it in my cedar chest.

I'm not sure what these are....but love the shape.

And there were few reds....

Mostly golden yellows.

I know it may be weird but-
the messed up ones are all my favorites.
Someone besides me must think they're delicious as well.
Have you ever noticed that often flower pictures I post have
holes in the petals?
I love holy petals.

-Now we're back home.
These flowers are some of my Mum's.
My Angel Mother used to bring me a little pot of Mums almost every Fall.
Sometimes she'd just leave them on my porch to surprise me.
Some of these were from her and mean so much to me.
I always look forward to their colorful blooms.

Well thanks for following along with us on our mountain drive.
Holykisses everyone! xoxo

Beautiful......Just beautiful....... and my Mom's mums are fixing to bloom. I always got her a big pot to set in the porch...... She would come out with her scissors and cut out a big chunk of the flowers and take inside... hahahaha by the time they were finished blooming there would only be a handful of flowers with all these little stubs.!!!! Then I would take those pots with their stubs and put them in my garden. I have many and each year they bloom... Reminds me of her........

I enjoyed going on your little outing........ I needed that

Thanks for the trip, I really enjoyed it. We were supposed to have gone to Pigeon Forge, Tenn. to my long............time friend's 50th anniversary. My dh has macular dengeneration in his right eye and the day before we were to leave he said his sight was cloudy so we didn't go. He was afraid to cross the mountain. I'm sure the trees would have been beautiful but I don't drive anymore and if anything happened we would have been in a pickle.

I've put Skype on and my friend's grandson put it on for her so we get to talk and see each other at the same time. I got the one that's free in the US and Canada as long as the other person has Skype. Why don't you try it and we could talk. I had to put an older version on becaue we were having trouble with the newest version. Oh you have to have a webcam also. My dh got me one at Wal Mart for less than $35. Google has done something to mess it up. Let me know if your interested and I will give you the website to go to.

Thanks again for the ride.
Love you, AE
