Kissing Some Garden Goodbye And Porch Project

Greetings and Holykisses,

Decisions decisions.
Our temps have been staying above 100 and I've had to water my garden like crazy.
With the heat; I have not been weeding as I should, so the garden really has become "A Garden of Weeden." Since the fruits and vegetables are dwindling, I think I've been watering for the weeds more than anything.

So last night.... I fired up the riding lawn mower and lifted the deck to it's highest position. With held breath, I drove right through the center of my garden. Grass flew, and I shredded the last olde rotted zucchini "Husqvarna style." Turning around at the end of one row, I came up another and something splattered across my face. It was cantaloupe. I had to laugh as I wiped a sticky goo off my cheek with my shirt. Bleck!! When I finished, I had to stop and clean my glasses so I could see.

Turning off the mower, I swallowed my sadness and thought of the last sweet cantaloupe that is waiting on the kitchen counter. It will taste especially good, knowing it's gonna be the last. Same for the last good zucchini gracing a harvest basket on the kitchen floor.

It doesn't seem that long ago, that I was working and tilled the soil to plant my seeds.
Now plants are withering and grasshoppers are coming.
I will continue to baby the tomato plants along for a little while yet.
They're fairly happy and still producing.
I wonder how all the morning glories will fair after snagging some with the mower wheels? Only time will tell.

On a happier note: The roofers said they will be finished today! We can hardly wait!
Tomorrow morning we'll awaken to the alarm clock rather than power saws and nail guns.
I can hardly wait to get everything picked up today, and the chairs above carried to their new shade... the porch. We'll still have new siding to paint in the days to come, but thankful to have such a large project checked off the long "to do" list.

Isaiah 40:8
The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.”

Wow gal, it just seems like you were planting the garden. Time needs to stand still a bit, its just moving too fast.

Enjoy the last fruits of your labor.

GOD bless.

Pooey!!!!! Don'tcha just hate the end the garden thing????? I have such lush weeds growing. I should win the prize for the greenest, tallest, fullest weed patch. I have to break down and admit it's mower time. And things will go SPLAT for me, too, I'm sure, because I'm NOT sticking my hands into those weeds. I had planted EXTRA HOT!!!!!!! peppers and won't eat them, so the mower will hit those, too. Maybe the vultures will take a mouthfull. So glad your roof will be done. LOVE those chairs, Lea!

Oh, to be able to work a garden, can and have all the fresh vegetables, but for me those days are over and have been for a long time. I do enjoy reading what you are doing and how much you enjoy doing them.

Please continue to pray for my husband. He woke me up about 3 a.m. Wednesday morning with his heart skipping beats. I called my daughter and then 911. They took him to the ER and then admitted him. The dr. started him on a coumadin drip to see if it would regulate his heart which it did about midnight. Later they put him on a pill and his heart stayed in rythym, but he will have to go every week to have his blood checked. He came home yesterday and seems to be doing fine with the medicines he's having to take.
Praise God for another miracle. It was a rough two days but God was so good and supplied our needs.
Blessings, AE

I'm having to water daily also, and keeping the weeds at bay! Maybe you can plant a fall garden, it has to cool off sooner or later? Enjoy your "quiet" weekend!! Hugs!

I think it's wonderful that you can have a garden in the first place. It's really too hot where I am, plus I never learned from my mom when I could've up in Washington state. Foolishly, I thought I'd never be interested in touching dirt! lol Shame on me! God bless you - enjoy your new porch!!

Too, too hot! I can't do it. Nobody should.
You reminded me I have a half a cantaloupe I need to pull out.
I want to show you a fun flickr page:

So sad to hear about the demise of your garden. I know it was difficult to do after all your hard work. I'm sure you will be on to another project very soon. You can't keep a good woman down! I love all your projects, especially the furniture re-do's. I'm not a blue person but I love your blue. You enjoy that last sweet cantaloupe and dream about next year.

Til next time...
God bless you real good.

hope the planting mojo comes back with the spring ...maybe dump piles of manure in a patch bordered by bricks or something and grab something like mushroom compost etc and just build it up until Spring comes.
I cleared mine....that is my handyman did when he came home and now it is winter and I should be stacking manure and compost ready to start again.

Hello darling friend...I've missed you so. Reading this post was such a sweet breath of fresh air today. I could so see you mowing through your garden...would have broken my heart a little bit...but can't blame you at all. No doubt you have (or are) savoring that especially sweet melon. It's been so long, I took a nice long stroll through your blog...what a sweet savor. I love how you've set it up...beautiful as always...just like you. = ) As I've read, this music has so blessed my soul...thank you friend for this beautiful place. Love you much...

Can't tell you how often you've crossed my mind since your last sweet e-mail! Work has been beyond-belief-busy...but that's ok...job security!

Can you believe how loud it is when roofers are working? I had to leave the house when they did ours. I came back to a woman in my bedroom cleaning up a mess--someone stepped through the roof.

I love the verse you ended with. God's Word never is outdated. It endures.

Ha, ha! I envisioned the Kathy Bates in Fried Green Tomaotes bashing into the young girl's VW with her big 'ol car! I know how you feel. I've been tempted to just pull out my flowers and call it quits. The heat has really done a number on stuff.

That verse is one of my very, very most favorites in the whole Bible (but then, I have a LOT of them in that category....)!

I'm sorry about your garden. I can imagine your sadness.
