Friday Finds....and Thinkin On Those Things...

Happy Friday!

Half of November is gone already; can you believe it? It's almost time to start making out those Thanksgiving grocery lists; you know: the LONG one!! Usually I've started picking a few things up by now, like pickles, olives, cranberries, .... all those things that add up like crazy and make for a loooong receipt$$kachinnnnnnnnnnng! But I haven't! Not one thing!

Last night, Trent, Myguy and myself were coming home together and I asked them if they'd started thinking of a yummy turkey dinner yet? Trent said, "Ohhh yeah!!" Myguy, said... "Yes, that ham is gonna be delicious!" "Ham???" I coulda swore I just said, "turkey." Both guys concurred that we are having ham and turkey. Then I asked what kind of pie they wanted.
Pumpkin, pecan, apple,.., the grocery list kept getting longer the more they dreamed out loud about it. It's so much fun cooking for Thanksgiving and Christmas isn't it? To know they love it so much, just brings sheer pleasure to me. We have so much to be thankful for! And I can't tell you how relieved I am that our oven is working again!!

I wish I had a photo to show you of another blessing that we picked up just last night. I've always been fond of Xterra's, and Myguy stops to look at them when driving through car lots once in awhile. I know he'd love to buy one, but a car payment is what we don't want or need! We're trying to get out of debt, not further in it. God knows that too. And this week, He gave us the desires of our heart! A 2003 Xterra that we paid for!!! I'm so excited and wish I had a picture to show you. You'd probably gasp, because the thing is; it's wrecked really bad on the front! That's a minor detail though, because do you know what else God gave me? A husband that he breathed ability and talent into .. to fix things that are broken! ;)

When we went to look at this vehicle "I" first saw a heap of crushed metal on the front. My dear husband instead saw possibilities. He made sure the frame was okay and then took note of everything he would need to buy and what he'd need to do to repair it. He had me sit in the front seat and see what it felt like. He told me to look at what wasn't broken and focus on the things that were right with it.

Last night we hauled it to the other shop and within thirty minutes Myguy had the crushed pieces removed and it already looked so much better! His big concern was the engine and if it was damaged but so far so good; and he got it running! I know it will take time now, to pay for things little by little, as we can afford it, and to fix it back up. But something else blessed me. A lesson I re-learned last night. Something Myguy said, keeps coming to my mind. He'd told me to not look at the things that were wrong, but to look at the things that were right: I've heard that before... and I know the Lord wants me to take it to heart:
"Finally brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-- if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-- think about such things." Philippians 4:8

I'm clinging to that verse today, and focusing on the things that are right. And just so I never forget; the Xterra has already gotten his new name: Philip'!! (Make sure ya say it with a French accent!) lol

I took a picture of it last night with my phone but that didn't do me much good did it? Even that; was after Myguy had removed the crushed parts. Think I'll call the lady we bought it from. It was her 18 year old daughter who ran it into a telephone pole. I'll bet they have a picture don't you? (No she wasn't hurt thank God!) I'd like a picture though, because it will be fun to see it's transformation!

As for the photo above, I'd stopped at the Salvation Army yesterday and found the sweet lil sugarbowl. It has two little chips and is full of crazing instead of sugar. (For now!!) I also found a really long strand of pine garland, and a pine wreath. I can't wait to get that glue gun out and jazz it up with some poinsettia blooms and ribbons! The olde wooden bobbin is ready to be created into a strawberry makedo!


This little lop-sided loaf will be gracing our table tonight. I'm playing semi-homemade today.
It looks like I really did something wonderful, but ... those little frozen bread dough loaves are just fabulicious! ;) I just knew someone would ask me for the recipe. It was easy. Just let rise n bake!

You have the most exciting life. To be able to look at something broken and know you can fix it. That is a gift both you and your husband have.

Over the past 27 years we have hauled many a thing home that I had my doubts about, but my man made them good!! Thank God for good husbands who can see beyond. I know what you mean about the grocery list getting longer. We have 5 children and when I asked everyone what kind of pies they wanted me to make, each one had their own kind and no one wanted to give theirs up!! We also have some who want cornbread stuffing and some who want bread stuffing, so I'll be making both of those.

Great, great post and what a beautiful way to view our lives...focusing on what's not broken and leaving the rest for God, or in some cases, Yourguy to fix! Congrats on Phillipe! (spoken in my very best French accent, of course!) Oh and I'm like you, love dreaming of cooking that big Thanksgiving meal...yum! Wow turkey AND ham!?! Delicious! No doubt you'll be a busy lady, but that's a sweet way to be, isn't it? I have bought a few things, but fully preparing myself for yes, that big, long grocery trip that usually makes me wince for a split moment at the cash register! I'll take that anyday over having no family to cook for on Thanksgiving! = ) Love you dear friend. Thank you for blessing my life so richly.

Lea, this is so weird, but I was just thinking about your jar canisters this past week and was wondering how hard it would be for me to try to look them up in your blog or just email you with a question about them. I have loved them ever since you forst showed them. I have been using the 40% off coupons for Hobby Lobby on their large glass canisters. They come with a plain silver metel lid and I am hoping to paint them with authentic vintahe colors and couldn't remember what color yours were. I remembered green, but thats all. I guess my question is answered. Thank you for the nice pics of them, I always enjoy seeing pics of your kitchen. It looks like a warm and welcoming place.
Happy Thanksgiving to you, I need to start buying up a few things also. I hate carrying it all in the house, but love cookig it too and making out al the list and planning it all.
