LiFe Is LiKe A bOwLFuL oF BLaCKbERRiES, and FiNishEd JeLLy CuPboArD

Greetings and Holykisses Yall,

I "think" I have a dentist appointment this afternoon to get my teeth cleaned, but thought I'd share a few pictures with you. I finished the little jelly cupboard. Decided it was more like a jelly cubbie rather than pie safe because typically pie safes are alot bigger right? ~Anyways, here was the before picture. With the door broken off it's hinges and also broken in two pieces.

Myguy put some little brackets on the back of the door and added bigger hinges so hopefully that won't happen again. Then I started sanding. I decided to not go down too far, but just knock down all the drips of the varnish on the door fronts. Besides, I like shabby, and it takes years for vintage pieces to develop their charm. I didn't want to lose that; otherwise it wouldn't be as shabby anymore!

I wish I knew more about distressing furniture but I'm no expert. I just dig out the brushes and paint until I'm happy with something. The biggest chore for me doing any of it was ...... opening the stinkin paint can! I'm so serious! It was an old half gallon can of paint that had been gummed up so bad under the lid that I couldn't get that thang open for nuthin!* No one was here and complete frustration took over. I was almost to the point of knockin holes in that can with a chisel, for the sheer enjoyment of beating it with a hammer. Determination and brutal force won.
Here it is in our shabby, olde farmhouse. The bottom knob is not original and I'm looking for a glass one on ebay. Thought I had one somewhere but of course I can't find it. You'll probably laugh but I'm thinking about using an antique doorknob instead just for fun.

Decided to go ahead and keep the cookbooks in it so I won't have to dust them as often. ;)
$1.10 in quarters and a dime, fixed the warped leg on the back. ;) Myguy said, "If we ever get completely hard up for money, there will be a dollar ten under the jelly cupboard." heeheehaahaahoohoo
Later this morning I headed to the garden. I found this little guy around the blackberries. Who could blame him? There's enough berries for both of us; "we decided to share."
I picked a big bowlfull and plan to make a cobbler this afternoon. If any of you has a really good recipe please drop me a line. Sometimes my cobblers are a little too runny.

Better get ready to go to the dentist.
Have a beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeautiful day!
God bless yall!

I found a tiny bead store and looked at some vintage buttons, wished you were here enjoying ice cream, Starbucks and looking at buttons.

By the way, those blackberries are looking mighty tasty!!!

I have a GREAT cobbler recipe. I will email it to you in the next day or so, if that is okay. It also has a delicious custard that goes on top, that makes it. It's my Grammy's recipe. :-)

Oh, I'm loving that jelly cupboard...absolutely PERFECT! You guys did a great job. I've had a similar encounter with a paint can, also when I was home alone, so I couldn't help but smile in agreement with you...it's crazy how tight those things can get stuck on (and how positively annoying that is!)

Those blackberries look DIVINE! How sweet of you to share them with Mr. Turtle. = ) Enjoy! Hope you get a good cobbler recipe.

Love & blessings,
Tracy

Thank you for visiting my blog too! I LOVE your blog! It caught my eye with all the antique and shabby looking items, but when I saw all the scriptures, etc is when I decided to follow you. I live in a farmhouse (not old, but build to look and feel that way). My biggest weakness has been Hershey Kisses with Almonds (Id go through a whole bag in a day by myself). I weigh in tonight, so we will see what happens. I look forward to coming back regularly and visiting you! Come see me again!
Kristina!
